I'd say that puts the word in the public domain in many countries but IANAL. I don't expect that even US copyright law lets someone take a pre-existing term and copyright it for its pre-existent meaning.

Like MSFT's claim to
"windows," I hate the idea that one day we'll be forced not to use such a
common, descriptive name for the keys that belong to a domain.
