To me, the statement "if you think something that helps reduce spam is by definition worth doing, that the "spam war" is about eliminating spam without regard for legitimate mail concerns, you have the equivalent intelligence of someone who believes that 1+1=3" is accurate.

If you think the war on spam is about eliminating spam, you're equivalent to a 1+1=11 thinker. The war on spam can only be acceptable if it is about eliminating all of the spam you can eliminate without interfering with the delivery of a single piece of legitimate mail.

Sender authentication is ill-considered on the getting-real-mail-through side, because the proponents have dismissed legitimate concerns (no collateral damage, inappropriateness or impossibility of controlling connectivity requirements, incompatibility with prevailing forwarding technology) as fodder in their crusade.
