Spam and Viruses (when encoded) are text content. The proper analogy 
here (and oh how I do so hate them) would be saying that the post 
office doesn't have to deliver hate mail (it does) and AT&T doesn't 
have to carry modem traffic (it does).

They don't get to choose content.

I get UCBE through the regular mail, and I don't see anyone saying we 
have a 50 year running DOS on the post office.

And I think you're being a little alarmist here. People who don't use 
computers very often may buy what you're selling, but I don't. E-Mail 
!= Internet, no more than World Wide Web = Internet. If E-Mail becomes 
so bogged down with this crap that it's no longer useful, I'll switch 
entirely to IRC and IM programs and life will move on, and so too will 
the Internet.

As a side note, I get significantly more email traffic from this 
mailing list than I ever do spam. I got 10 spams today and over 50 
from this list. I am not you, your problems are not mine and I think 
you should take a minute and relax, the world does not tomorrow.
