I guess I should ask for some time to discuss Bounce-Address Tag Validation (BATV). It signs the RFC2821.MailFrom cryptographically.

 It's been discussed in Marid, but it does not really fit there.

 A very rough description of it is at

<http://brandenburg.com/specifications/draft-crocker-marid-batv-00 -06dc.html>

 I am hoping to have something that moves from "general proposal" to
 "real specification" over the next few days.

Sorry I'm late in on this - I have been away.

Does John Levine have data yet on how well this works with the current crop of mailing list software? Ezmlm checks subscribers based on MailFrom according to the admittedly brief checks I did, and so this scheme will break with ezmlm mailing lists (which is very popular, for example running the mailing lists at apache.org and perl.org). I'd like to see some kind of evaluation data on it though.

Matt.
