i was struck by how easy it was to move along the wall-top road, relative
to how difficult it was to move towards the wall, for the section of the
wall i visited near beijing. courtesy cnnic/cas.

defending forces could collapse towards the points of attack faster than
attacking forces could be inserted.

assuming no other advantage to defense, in limited attrition contests, the
defense would seem to be more likely to prevail.

adding 10 meters of heights, plus rampart shelter to the terrain dominated
rate of manning problem, and defense would seem to be more likely to prevail
for larger attrition contests.

in short, my judgement differs from yours, but mine is based upon limited
scholarship.
