To some degree. These days it's more likely RSS, which is pure
pull and is widely seen as an alternative to mailing lists.
I've tried it, it's nice. You can now get my comp.compilers newsgroup
as usenet comp.compilers, the web site compilers.iecc.com, or an RSS
feed. I'm getting over 3000 hits a week on the RSS feed with close to
no publicity, so someone's interested in it.
