Re: [AVT] WG last call: draft-ietf-avt-rfc2793bis-08.txt

Folks,

This is to announce a working group last call on the RTP Payload for Text Conversation <draft-ietf-avt-rfc2793bis-08.txt>. Please send final comments on this draft to the mailing list by 2 August 2004. If no issues are raised by that time, we'll request the IESG to consider this draft for publication as a Proposed Standard RFC.

This working group last call period has ended. A number of minor editorial issues were raised on the mailing list - an updated draft needs to be made available to address those.

In addition, after consultation between the working group chairs and our area director, we wish to request that the authors split this draft into two pieces:

 - draft-ietf-avt-rfc2793bis-09.txt which contains only the text/t140
payload format, and is a pure update as RFC 2793; and

 - draft-ietf-avt-audio-t140c-00.txt which contains only the audio/t140c
   payload format.

We recognise that there will be considerable overlap between the two drafts. Despite this, we believe the split to be desirable since it allows us to progress the drafts independently on the standards track, reflecting the maturity of the text/t140 format (which has been previously published) relative to the newness of the audio/t140c format.

Provided there are no technical changes, we do not envisage the need for a new working group last call on the split drafts since the content has been reviewed already.
