[AVT] Unsuitable formulation in H.264 payload format
Hi,
Miska, me and Dave Singer has discussed an issue with the definition of the sprop-init-buf-time. It currently reads as below (draft-ietf-avt-rtp-h264-10).
Section 8.1, page 45-46:
The parameter is coded as a decimal
representation in clock ticks of a 90-kHz
clock. If the parameter is not present, then a
value of 0 MUST be used for sprop-init-buf-
time. The value of sprop-init-buf-time MUST be
an integer in the range of 0 to 4 294 967 295,
inclusive.
The problem we have found is that the definition of a default time is inappropriate for this parameter. The reason is that there are several use cases where the initial buffering time is undefined. Therefore we propose to change the text to indicate that the absence of the parameter does indicate that no initial buffering time at all i defined. The proposed new text is:
The parameter is coded as a decimal
representation in clock ticks of a 90-kHz
clock. If the parameter is not present, then
no initial buffering time value is defined. The
value of sprop-init-buf-time MUST be
an integer in the range of 0 to 4 294 967 295,
inclusive.
Does this change seem okay to the WG?
Cheers
