Yes, port names are not a scarce resource, but they're also to some
extent imbued with meaning.
Actually my proposed scheme has a big hole, because every TCP port
has a UDP port in the current IANA registry. So if someone wants to register
a TCP portname, they don't need to worry about the TCP version, just
register the UDP one.
I simply disagree with the spec implying that it makes sense, FCFS, for
DCCP to register a portname such as "http" and port 80, which adds up
to saying DCCP is just fine for porting applications from TCP. This
is not good transport advice.
But I seem to be saying this for the third time...or fourth?
