Jarod,
thanks for this very interesting description. However, I also think our
draft is the wrong place to address these issues. Our draft should focus on
describing the new options, not the generic netboot process. For example,
we originally had a big chapter that discussed the advantages and
disadvantages of the various boot protocols (TFTP, HTTP, iSCSI), but we've
been told that this does not belong to an RFC document that describes new
DHCP options.
So if you want to discuss DUID usage, I'd suggest that you either create a
new draft for "netboot DUID best practices" which can be used as a basis
for this discussion, or that you try to address this issue on the
appropriate firmware/operating system mailing lists (e.g. the UEFI mailing
list about network booting), since most of the firmware / OS people might
not read this mailing list here.
