Try looking up the A record on a name with three different A records, three different times, and notice how the ordering changes.

	I know. Unless the nameserver has custom policy tuning, I'll
	probably get three different permutations of the records.

	It's quite a leap from there to what you claimed.

	The online version of the (4th edition of the) "Cricket book"
	points out, "Note that this is really load distribution, not
	load balancing [...]".

	I'm not aware of any DNS-related RFC which "specifies a
	load-balancing mechanism".
