[Emu] PPP authentication and encryption - reality check

Hi,

not sure if this mailing list is the appropriate one for asking these 
questions. I guess most people here are rather interested in the use of 
EAP in wireless networks. But I hope someone can help me to answer them:

- What are currently the widely deployed methods for authenticating PPP 
peers? MSCHAP2? EAP-MD5? PPP-EAP-TLS?

- Is there any encryption used?! e.g. with PPP ECP?

P.S. the background of my question is that there has been some attacked 
reported lately on hijacked DSL connections.
