Hi: I am interested in what TCP/UDP port numbers people are using. Largely the port numbers above port #255. I am especially interested in protocols which people are using, which may result in significant amounts of traffic (e.g., X Window based stuff). I compiled a list of port numbers out of a couple of Unix BSD /etc/services files as well as a new port number list from Jon Postel. If you have applications for which you use specific port numbers not in this list and which is of more than strictly local use, I would appreciate a note. I would like to point out that this is a request just out of curiosity. It should not be misread as having anything to do with trying to get any kind of official (or unofficial) blessing of picking numbers, especially above the "Well Known" port numbers. -- Hans-Werner ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ # 0 # <reserved> # tcpmux 1/tcp # TCP Port Service Multiplexer # 3 # <unassigned> # rje 5/? # remote job entry echo 7/tcp # Echo echo 7/udp # Echo discard 9/tcp sink null # Discard discard 9/udp sink null # Discard systat 11/tcp users # Active Users daytime 13/tcp # Daytime daytime 13/udp # Daytime netstat 15/tcp # <unassigned> qotd 17/tcp quote # Quote of the day chargen 19/tcp ttytst source # Character Generator chargen 19/udp ttytst source # Character Generator # ftp-data 20/tcp # File Transfer [default data] ftp 21/tcp # File Transfer [control] telnet 23/tcp # Telnet smtp 25/tcp mail # Simple Mail Transfer Prot. # nsw-fe 27/? # NSW User System FE # msg-icp 29/? # MSG ICP # msg-auth 31/? # MSG Authentication # dsp 33/? # Display Support Protocol # 35/? # Any private printer server time 37/tcp timserver # Time time 37/udp timserver # Time rlp 39/udp resource # Resource Location Protocol # graphics 41/? # Graphics nameserver 42/tcp name # Host Name Server, IEN 116 whois 43/tcp nicname # Who Is # mpm-flags 44/? # MPM Flags Protocol # mpm 45/? # Message Processing Module rcv # mpm-snd 46/? # MPM [default send] # ni-ftp 47/? # NI FTP # login 49/? # Login Host protocol # la-maint 51/? # IMP Log.
