With all due respect, it seems to me that the value of the IETF is not limited to the subjects its members speak of, but includes also the network of human beings that speak. Frankly, I have to pay both to send and receive, and feel that both that and the time spent reading and writing mail are "costs of doing business". As one of these people who have to pay, I would rather read the mail of people having fun on the way to solving some set of problems than the mail of those who would limit the chatter to that which is "absolutely necessary".
