Re: question about UBC meeting

Fellow IETFers,

Until recently I was a Canadian citizen, having spent the first 20 years of
my life there. I can say that in general, arriving in Canada directly from
the U.S. is largely a non-event most of the time. I cannot comment what
happens if you bring a laptop computer across the border, although I know
that they ask you to fill out a short form with various trivia about your
nationality, what you plan to declare, etc.

You *will* need some positive identification saying who you are. You must have
a passport if you are not an American citizen. It is probably less hassle to
use a passport if you are an American, although I do not believe that it is
required; a valid driver's license is probably good enough. (About 10 years
ago, it was never required for Americans to produce a passport, but this
practice has changed more recently).

Phil Park.
