MEMO
From: The IESG
To: The IAB
Cc: The IETF
Re: The Point to Point Protocol
With this memo, the IESG recommends that the "The Point to Point
Protocol: A Proposed Standard for the Transmission of Multi-Protocol
Datagrams Over Point-to-Point Links" document be advanced to Draft
Standard Status. The IESG further recommends that the Internet-Draft
"The Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) Initial Configuration Options" be
published as a Proposed Standard.
The Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) provides a method for transmitting
datagrams over serial point-to-point links. This is a standard needed
for the interoperability of routers and to replace the less functional
SLIP protocol for dial up serial lines.
The recommended "status of this memo section" for the first document,
reads:
"This document specifies a Draft Standard protocol for the
Internet Community. When it becomes a Full Standard, this
protocol will be recommended for all TCP/IP implementations
which communicate over serial links."
The recommended "status of this memo section" for the second document,
reads:
"This document specifies a Proposed Standard protocol for the
Internet Community. When it becomes a Full Standard, this
protocol will be recommended for all TCP/IP implementations
which communicate over serial links."
