Maybe UUNET should help to build a NEW, robust Root Name Server Cluster ? It could be RFC 2010 compliant and have 4 to 6 servers to start. Maybe one of the other major networks could donate a couple of servers to round it out to 8, which is a nice number for an RSC. This would allow UUNET to have a vote in what TLDs are entered into that RSC. ISPs could use that RSC if they liked the choices that UUNET makes. Traffic would be localised and failures could be reduced because if a UUNET-ISP can reach UUNET it will likely be able to reach the UUNET RSC. This may not be the case with the legacy RSC, with servers on across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Jim Fleming
