The best solution (so far) for IP QoS seems to be the MPLS standard.I believe that right now only ATM can give real QoS (using CBR Class Of Service) and as I said to my earlier posting ATM is here to stay in the backbone, with IP moving down the scale. As for Gigabit Ethernet, I have read some articles and most of them are noncommital on the matter of QoS. I just bought a book on it, so as soon as i study it, i will have a better opinion.
