I do filter some people. The bandwidth is spared.
For some, I also filter all attempts to *reply* to these people.
Think about why....

Reasons for not doing live filtering:
Maintaining the ruleset costs me perhaps an hour a month, does
not delay accepted mail, and can be done in "spare moments".
Live filtering would cost me several minutes per day, and would
delay mail even when it is accepted, sometimes for long periods.
(I don't log on often when I'm on vacation).

Live filtering is not workable without 24x7 staffing (IMHO), and
that simply does not make economic sense.
