IP over MPEG-2 Transport

At the moment there are a number of ways that IP datagrams are carried,
over MPEG-2 Transport Stream. Most practical implementations
use varients of the Multi-Protocol Encapsulation (MPE). But this allows
various options. There is as yet single recommended method.

You'll find much discussion of this on the ip-dvb list, web site at

http://www.erg.abdn.ac.uk/users/gorry/ip-dvb

including one specific submission at:

http://www.erg.abdn.ac.uk/users/gorry/ip-dvb/docs/Overhead-Analysis.doc

There's a mailing list on IP over MPEG-2 (and DVB/ATSC/etc.)
which would be a good place to answer this question. The ip-dvb list
is NOT an IETF working group, but has been proposed for a BOF to the IESG
to start work in this area. Details of how to join the list can
be found at the above web site.

Best wishes,

Gorry Fairhurst
