Now that I think about it some more, regardless of the merits of TMDA
or lack thereof, if those addresses aren't sending annoying mail,
what's the problem?

It's very unlikely that anyone is trying to scrape addresses from the
list mail as it goes by.  The volume is (by spammer standards) very
small, and the addresses they'd get aren't exactly hot prospects for
fake drugs and stock tips.

Yes, a lot of them are probably random bystanders who auto-acked their
way in, but I'd leave well enough alone.
