Changing that is straight out. Better try a similar idea with an extension regitry, e.g. s-whatever for "script variants", or s-Latn-whatever for "Latn-variants" (etc.) The "whatever" part does not need its own registry, if anything folks like to use goes you can say so in the required "s-" RFC.
