This wording, found in 2.2, is anomalous:

The definitions in this section apply to the various subtags within the language tags defined by this document, excepting those "grandfathered" tags defined in Section 2.2.8 (Grandfathered Registrations).

The reference to "this section" I take to mean all of section 2.2, including subsections 2.2.1 - 2.2.9. Thus, definitions in 2.2.8 are among "[t]he definitions in this section". I suggest the following revision:


The definitions in this section apply to the various subtags within the language tags defined by this document. The "grandfathered" tags defined in Section 2.2.8 (Grandfathered Registrations) are exceptional: definitions in that section supersede definitions in other parts of Section 2.2.
