[manet] IEEE 802.11 CSMA/CA or RTS/CTS?

To Whom It May Concern,

 

Hi. It is documented that the DCF mode of IEEE 802.11 can use both CSMA/CA and/?or MACA (RTS/CTS).  However, I was wondering which one does 802.11 use?  Does it use a combination of both?  Does it make a selection as to which one to use?

 

I would really appreciate your help in this regard.
