[manet] question about 802.11 entry time

Hi,

Did anyone analyze the L2/L1 entry time of 802.11b/g/a?
I want to know the time which it takes when a new terminal
goes into a BSS.

In order to be able to use a new terminal, 
how much time does it take?

Does a terminal scan the frequency, when going into BSS?
How much time does the scan take?

Could you teach me where the information about this is?
