[manet] AODV working across subnets

Hi,

I have a very basic question about AODV. Since AODV is a flat protocol, does that mean two nodes in different subnets (e.g. 192.0.1.1 and 192.0.2.1) can talk to each other directly. It seems AODV does not implement the notion of default gateway or hierarchical routing and maintain routes as /32 addresses. So a router with 5 interfaces in different subnets will be considered as five virtual nodes for a neighbor node??

Any comment in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Links to implementation/documentation about default gateway concept in AODV will be a great help.

Thanks in advance,
-MU
