Re: [manet] AODV working across subnets

Hello,

AODV is specified to work with collections of network nodes
organized into a subnet. This is basically done by providing the
network prefix information as part of a RREP message. The
router that provides the RREP is not a default router, but just
a router for the particular subnet. The router has to follow some
basic rules to maintain a sequence number that applies to the
entire subnet.

There are other specifications for using an Internet Gateway as
a default router. I think this makes sense, and it means that if a
manet node does not have a route to a particular destination,
it will then send the packet to(wards) the default gateway. With
this model, a network node can use a default router that is more
than one hop away. You can see a specification for this in a
draft from Ryuji Wakikawa.

Charlie P.

Hi,
I have a very basic question about AODV. Since AODV is a flat protocol, does that mean two nodes in different subnets (e.g. 192.0.1.1 and 192.0.2.1) can talk to each other directly. It seems AODV does not implement the notion of default gateway or hierarchical routing and maintain routes as /32 addresses. So a router with 5 interfaces in different subnets will be considered as five virtual nodes for a neighbor node??
Any comment in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Links to implementation/documentation about default gateway concept in AODV will be a great help.
Thanks in advance,
