Re: [RAM] 6to4

I am wondering where 6to4 fits on the LISP continuum.
Correct me if I am wrong, but with 6to4 the identifer
to locator mapping comes from a single DNS lookup. The
identifer is not routeable over the core, but the ETR
locator is embedded in the identifier address so the
ETR discovery comes "for free".

Is 6to4 an example of LISP 2?

Well, it was conceived rather differently, on a model where there is exactly one IPv4 core, exactly one native IPv6 cloud, and a large number of IPv6 islands wishing to communicate with the IPv6 cloud over the IPv4 core.

If you use it otherwise, it is not a method that will
limit expansion of the IPv6 DFZ, and it does absolutely
nothing for the IPv4 DFZ.

Is it good enough to be
considered as a long-term solution, or is it just a
baby-step to a fully jacked-up LISP deployment?

I'd rather view it as a subversive technology that has a finite scope of applicability. Of course, within that scope, the 6to4 mapping is a perfectly fine one for an IPv6-over-IPv4 implementation of LISP. But I doubt it can be the only mapping in use.
