completely tangential remark:

I've heard that the MPAA/DVD consortium are working together with display
hardware makers to finalize a standard for moving data in encrypted form
between a PC and a display, so that "rippers" can't get at it.

And of course GSM is encrypted over the air whether we want it or not.

We may find ourselves in a situation where data is encrypted even when we
do NOT want it to be......is this a problem for the would-be wiretappers????
