Acknowledgement Compression Protocol
Dear pilc and robhc lists,
first we would like to apologize to those who recieve
two copies of this letter!
As we have mentioned earlier on the PILC mailing list
we are working on a protocol for compressing pure TCP
acknowledgements (no payload) including SACK and
Timestamp options. It is intended for use over connections
with severe bandwidth asymmetry. It is designed to cope
with large bandwidth-delay products and higher than wired
BER, e.g. using Digital Audio Broadcast as downlink and
GSM as uplink.
We have finished a draft of the protocol, which we are
now implementing in FreeBSD. You may find the protocol
specification at:
http://www.erv.ericsson.se/kulan/IPv4AckCompB.pdf
Hopefully our work can give some input to the PILC
discussion on asymmetry and also to the robhc work
on robust TCP header compression.
Sincerely
Göran Johansson, Jan Kullander, Haider Shakargi
