I believe it is one of the most important jobs of a Liaison (and all other
IP-clued-in 3GPP[n]ers) to educate 3Gpp[n] (or whatever other standards
organization) about the demerits of giving up transparency for saving that
last byte (assuming that is possible at all).  I won't list them here,
because this would be preaching to the choir -- let me just summarize by
saying that the problem headers stripping will generate is likely to be more
expensive than $1B.

PS.: On the other hand, also allowing to terminate RTP at the RNC and using
a voice-specific protocol to the phone is just fine *if* RTCP and the
control protocols (SIP, H.323, Megacop, whatever) are terminated at the RNC,
too (as opposed to playing games trying to make it appear RTP is terminated
at the mobile station).  Just don't talk about "Mobile Internet" then.
