If the IP ID is re-assigned the "wrong number" then
you can end up with troubles ...
You regard the IP ID as non-essential, which more fields
do you regards as non-essential?
Who can decide which fields that are essential
from network and application point of view?
What about UDP checksum, TOS, are these fields essential
in your view?
I certainly understand the need of spectrum efficiency,
but using a non-transparant header stripping scheme for
voice over "IP" is to me one step forward and then two steps
backwards.
