Hi,

The intention of private messages is that 
a) sender does not need to know the valid addresses for the recipients beyond the scope of the conference
b) they are sent wihtin the context of the conference, which can thus also be visible in the UI
c) they can be sent without additional signaling to setup the list of recipients, i.e. the list needs to be conveyed inline of the message

My understanding of what sidebar is may be wrong, but I've thought there is some state associated with the sidebar, unlike in the above case.
