Hi,

I am sure that there are cases where messages (STUN, or whatever) will
be sent to destinations that don't support them, e.g. due to bad
configuration.

MY problem is that I don't like to standardize behavior which is based
on sending something somewhere just to find out if the reciever supports
the protocol in the first place. That is the reason I want to be able to
get the information from the proxy before sending anything.

Rohan's proposal is exactly what you dont want: sending something just to find out if the receiver supports the protocol.

I am confused. The proposal the started this thread was to *include* a Proxy-Require when the UAC sends its first message. If the UAC was properly configured, this adds no additional overhead.

The proposal that Dean and Cullen made subsequently is "try it once and see". Again, if the UAC is properly configured, there is no extra overhead.

What part of these two proposals is not OK for you?
