As far as I can see, all the schemes that Hadriel pointed out have
exactly the same problem as sip:, they permit "mailbox"-style components
but do not specify how they are to be encoded if the characters in
question are not valid by RFC 3986.

It's "urgh" only if you've implemented IPv6, I suppose. Conveniently,
our project hasn't.
