Okay, makes sense, I didn't know that /html/ added
the "rfc" etc. features, and thought that they were
a part of /id/.

RFC.xxx is unusual, but I-D.xxx is what you get with
xml2rfc for a bare <xref target="I-D.xxx" />, e.g.
<xref target="I-D.ietf-usefor-usefor" />
is shown as
[I-D.ietf-usefor-usefor]
for a "normal" (= imported from xml.resource.org)
bibxml3/reference.I-D.ietf-usefor-usefor.xml

ACK, it also preserves the dot for the ".txt" magic -
if that's how you handle extensions, but this would
break for other dots in a document name.

Probably the /html/ magic never tries /id/ietf-xxx
if it doesn't see a "draft-" at the begin (?)
