That seems sane to me; the current situation doesn't.

And I certainly didn't want this to escalate into something this involved.

AFAIK this check has been in there since cutover, and I can't speak for why it's suddenly become exposed... but in the interest of getting a quick resolution, even if a temporary one, I've modified the ruleset here.

Eric, could you please test this and let me know how it goes? If it fails again, we can try something else.
