I guess it really should be running as a daemon. I don't know how easy that would be to accomplish, but it's at least worth checking if anybody has looked
at it before, and also how hard it would be to do a daemonization wrapper.
I'll have a peek.

If you're running it as part of local delivery just doing a little locking will put enough backpressure on it to keep it from spamming you with processes.
