[Raven] WSJ-Europe: NSA Defends Listening Post

Today in the Wall Street Journal Europe, p29

  NSA Defends Listening Post

U.S. Agency Chief Says Rigid Controls Privacy

[Hey, where have we heard that before, The Netherlands?]

Echelon System and 'Urban Myths' of Universal
  Eavesdropping

  WASHINGTON

Under attack from privacy advocates in the U.S. and
Europe, the director of the National Security Agency
said that his agency snoops on Americans only under
rigid controls and never engages in foreign economic
  espionage for U.S. corporations.

[Again, nothing new, precisely what happens in The
Netherlands...]

  ..
  ..

[Little too much skipped, for example about they urban
legend that litterally everything is scanned recorded by
NSA.]

  ..
  ..

NSA intercepts are a key ingredient in U.S. effords to
spy on drugs runners and terrorists, and the agency's
eavesdropping proved crucial during the Kosovo conflict
last year as well as during the intense U.S.
  counterterrorist campaign in December.

= =

Nothing new and nothing different except tapping is also
used in courts in The Netherlands. So not only for
intelligence and national interest but also for law-
enforcement.
