Much of the daily work of the IETF is conducted on electronic mailing lists. There are three categories of mailing lists:
A Web-based tool is available for requesting that a mailing list be hosted at the ietf.org domain. The tool allows the user to enter all of the information required to create the list, and to obtain the necessary approval.
Please note that mailing lists @ietf.org are for conducting official IETF business only and must be approved by an IETF Area Director, the IETF Chair, or the IAB Chair. Statements addressed to these lists are considered IETF contributions and are subject to the IETF intellectual property rights rules as defined in RFC 3978, "IETF Rights in Contributions," and RFC 3979, "Intellectual Property Rights in IETF Technology."
To request that a new mailing list be created @ietf.org, please click on "Request a Mailing List."
