However, I didn't seem to get a DHCP'd address when I gave it a shot. I only tried very briefly though, as I was still sensing the wireless AP downstairs. So when it didn't work, I just used that and didn't mess with the in room wired link.

[13:38:31] <andrewm> The C library resolver does UDP to start with, and falls back as per the standard. But IIRC you can configure BIND to talk TCP only for forwarding, so you can run a caching-only config locally that only forwards by tcp to an odd port on localhost.
