"Version 2 of the Protocol Operations for the Simple Network Management Protocol", Randy Presuhn, Jeff Case, Keith McCloghrie, M. Richard Rose, Steven Waldbusser, 16-Oct-01. (2343 bytes)
- This document defines version 2 of the protocol operations for the Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP). This document obsoletes RFC 1905. It
defines the syntax and elements of procedure for sending, receiving, and
processing SNMP PDUs.
-
"Transport Mappings for the Simple Network Management Protocol", Randy Presuhn, Jeff Case, Keith McCloghrie, M. Richard Rose, Steven Waldbusser, 16-Oct-01. (2234 bytes)
- This document defines the transport of SNMP messages over various
protocols. This document obsoletes RFC 1906.
-
"Management Information Base for the Simple Network Management Protocol", Randy Presuhn, Jeff Case, Keith McCloghrie, M. Richard Rose, Steven Waldbusser, 04-Oct-01. (2342 bytes)
- This document defines managed objects which describe the behavior of an
SNMP entity. This document obsoletes RFC 1907, Management Information Base
for Version 2 of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMPv2).
-
"SNMP Applications", David Levi, 27-Nov-01. (2672 bytes)
- This memo describes five types of SNMP applications which make use of an
SNMP engine as described in [SNMP-ARCH]. The types of application
described are Command Generators, Command Responders, Notification
Originators, Notification Receivers, and Proxy Forwarders. This memo also
defines MIB modules for specifying targets of management operations, for
notification filtering, and for proxy forwarding. This memo will obsolete
RFC2273.
-
"User-based Security Model (USM) for version 3 of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMPv3)", Uri Blumenthal, Bert Wijnen, 30-Nov-01. (2553 bytes)
- This document describes the User-based Security Model (USM) for SNMP
version 3 for use in the SNMP architecture [SNMP-ARCH]. It defines the
Elements of Procedure for providing SNMP message level security. This
document also includes a MIB for remotely monitoring/managing the
configuration parameters for this Security Model.
-
"View-based Access Control Model (VACM) for the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)", Bert Wijnen, Randy Presuhn, Keith McCloghrie, 30-Nov-01. (2589 bytes)
- This document describes the View-based Access Control Model for use in the
SNMP architecture [SNMP-ARCH]. It defines the Elements of Procedure for
controlling access to management information. This document also includes
a MIB for remotely managing the configuration parameters for the
View-based Access Control Model.
-
"An Architecture for Describing SNMP Management Frameworks", Dan Harrington, Randy Presuhn, Bert Wijnen, 16-Oct-01. (2632 bytes)
- This document describes an architecture for describing SNMP Management
Frameworks. The architecture is designed to be modular to allow the
evolution of the SNMP protocol standards over time. The major portions of
the architecture are an SNMP engine containing a Message Processing
Subsystem, a Security Subsystem and an Access Control Subsystem, and
possibly multiple SNMP applications which provide specific functional
processing of management data.
-
"Message Processing and Dispatching for the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)", Jeff Case, David Harrington, Randy Presuhn, Bert Wijnen, 16-Oct-01. (2658 bytes)
- This document describes the Message Processing and Dispatching for SNMP
messages within the SNMP architecture [RFC-ARCH]. It defines the
procedures for dispatching potentially multiple versions of SNMP messages
to the proper SNMP Message Processing Models, and for dispatching PDUs to
SNMP applications. This document also describes one Message Processing
Model - the SNMPv3 Message Processing Model.
-
"Introduction and Applicability Statements for Internet-standard Network Management Framework", Jeff Case, 07-Aug-02. (2605 bytes)
- The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the third
version of the Internet-Standard Management Framework, termed the SNMP
version 3 Framework (SNMPv3). This Framework is derived from and builds
upon both the original Internet- Standard Management Framework (SNMPv1)
and the second Internet-Standard Management Framework (SNMPv2). The
architecture is designed to be modular to allow the evolution of the
Framework over time. The document explains why using SNMPv3 instead of
SNMPv1 or SNMPv2 is strongly recommended. The document also recommends
that RFCs 1157, 1441, 1901, 1909 and 1910 be retired by moving them to
Historic status. This document obsoletes RFC 2570. This document is a work
product of the SNMPv3 Working Group of the Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF).
-
"Applicability Statement for SNMPv3 Cryptographic Algorithms", Steven Bellovin, Randy Bush, 28-Feb-02. ( bytes)
- This document attempts to put in perspective the use of cryptographic
algorithms in the Simple Network Monitoring Protocol Version 3 standard.
In particular, it notes that today's standard is infinitely more secure
than previous versions, as the previous versions had zero security. It
further notes that, as cryptographic algorthim developments change over
time, we expect that the recommended algorithms will change when the
security community has reached new consensus.
