ENUM and Presence
In the IETF, quite a bit of existing work has been done on sharing presence information
Roughly, presence information is real-time data about the disposition of a party, usually regarding their disposition to communicate
Most common example today is in commercial instant messaging systems (“idle”, “away”, etc)
Presence as a using protocol provides a framework for managing the periodic transmission of location information
Operations for subscription, notification, unsubscription
Concept that presence information is sent periodically to a subscriber (a “watcher”) as it changes
RFC2778/RFC2779 define a framework and requirements for presence
draft-ietf-impp-cpp-02 defines a “pres” URI scheme for presence
