Minutes SIPPING WG at IETF 67 Minutes edited by Gonzalo Camarillo Based on notes by Spencer Dawkins, Dean Willis, and Brian Rosen Meeting chaired by Mary Barnes and Gonzalo Camarillo Slides presented included in the proceedings First Session MONDAY, November 6, 2006, 0900-1130 Topic: Agenda Bash Discussions led by: Chairs The chairs presented the current status of the WG. The chairs presented the last charter update, which includes a few new milestones (Session Border Controllers requirements, race condition examples, overload requirements, offer/answer examples, and IPv6 torture tests). The chairs explained that assigning reviewers to drafts is working very well. Currently, the bottleneck in the WGLC process is typically the authors failing to revise a document in time. The chairs may appoint new editors to some WG items in the future to resolve this issue. Topic: Session Policies Discussion led by: Volker Hilt Relevant documents: draft-ietf-sipping-policy-package-02.txt draft-ietf-sipping-media-policy-dataset-02.txt draft-ietf-sip-session-policy-framework-00.txt Issue: how to correlate an INVITE with its associated policy at a proxy. It seems that some people want to have a token passed by the policy server to the user agent. The user agent would include this token in the INVITE so that the token would be visible to the proxy. Some folks did not see the need for such a mechanism, but found it harmless if specified. Issue: disclosure of session information to the policy server. In order to have a simple mechanism, it seems that having user agents fill all the fields of a media policy document would be a good solution. It was agreed to remove the elements that did not seem useful such as the elements indicating intermediaries to be included using IP loose routing. It was agreed to add elements that seem useful such as bandwidth-related elements. The documents are ready for WGLC. Topic: Overload Requirements Discussion led by: Jonathan Rosenberg Relevant documents: draft-rosenberg-sipping-overload-reqs-02.txt The next revision of this draft will be a WG item. The next revision will include comments received on the list. There was consensus that having a simulation model will be useful to test potential solutions to these requirements. The next revision of the draft will be ready for WGLC. Topic: Overload Control Discussion led by: Volker Hilt Relevant documents: draft-hilt-sipping-overload-00.txt This draft is the result of combining two previous drafts. There were discussions on the proposed approach. Given that the solution the WG finally accepts will have to be tested against the simulation model defined in the requirements draft, it is likely that a design team will need to be formed. Topic: SIP End-to-end Performance Metrics Discussion led by: Daryl Malas Relevant documents: draft-malas-performance-metrics-05.txt The next revision of the draft will include comments received on the list. It seems that there is interest in seeing this work progressing. The area directors are looking for a home to it. Topic: Clarification of Privacy Mechanism Discussion led by: Mayumi Munakata Relevant documents: draft-munakata-sipping-privacy-clarified-00.txt The conclusion was that more discussions are needed on whether some of the current privacy mechanisms (or parts of them) need to be deprecated and whether some mechanisms (or parts of them) are still valid and need to be clarified. Discussions to follow on the list. Topic: Method for URI-list Servers to Refuse the Handling of a URI-list Discussion led by: Jani Hautakorpi Relevant documents: draft-hautakorpi-sipping-uri-list-handing-refused-00.txt This draft is an OMA dependency for PoC (Push-to-talk over Cellular). It seems that the reason code defined by the draft is not necessary. An already existing error code such as 403 could be used instead. The draft should include a discussion on why this mechanism is needed and whether it is general enough or it can be implemented using a P-header. Topic: Coping with Early Media Discussion led by: Brian Stucker Relevant documents: draft-stucker-sipping-early-media-coping-03.txt draft-ejzak-sipping-p-em-auth-02.txt The chairs will be requesting the publication of the p-em draft shortly, per the rough consensus in the previous IETF meeting. If somebody disagrees, please send a note to the list. The media-coping draft should clearly separate tutorial material from changes to specs. Not clear if the mechanism to identify different types of early media would be useful. User agents could cheat and gateways would not know what type to use. Second Session TUESDAY, November 7, 2006, 1850-1950 Topic: Call Completion Service Discussion led by: Adam Roach Relevant documents: draft-roach-sipping-callcomp-bfcp-00.txt There were discussions about the mechanism proposed by the draft. Then, there were discussions on whether using BFCP is the right thing to do. Some people are in favour and some people are against it. Further discussions on the requirements and on the proposed solution needed. Topic: Offer/answer usage Discussion led by: Paul Kyzivat Relevant documents: draft-sawada-sipping-sip-offeranswer-01.txt The next revision of this draft will be a WG item. Not clear yet what type of RFC it will eventually become, though. It is important that this draft gets input from the SIPit events. Topic: Race Conditions Discussion led by: Jun Koshiko Relevant documents: draft-hasebe-sipping-race-examples-02.txt The next revision of this draft will be a WG item. Not clear yet what type of RFC it will eventually become, though. People are encouraged to read this draft and send comments to the authors.
