Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) Minutes Meeting : IETF69 Wed July 25th 1pm Chairs : Ian Chakeres ian.chakeres@gmail.com Joseph Macker joseph.macker@nrl.navy.mil Jabber : manet@jabber.ietf.org Audiocast: http://www.ietf.org/audio// URL : http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/manet-charter.html http://www.ianchak.com/manet http://tools.ietf.org/wg/manet/ Scribe : Justin Dean Alexandru Petrescu Sergeant : Ratul Mukhopadhyay -at-arms ========================================================= Administriva - Mailing list: manet@ietf.org - Presentations have been updated very recently. Afterward, a new WG LC will be issued. Please send in your comments now. ========================================================= Generalized MANET Packet/Message Format draft-ietf-manet-packetbb Speaker: Thomas Clausen Content: See slides There was some discussion at the microphone about lowering PacketBB's overhead. Charlie Perkins said he would send an email to the list within one week with suggestions, so that we can close WG LC. Several members expressed that a document describing the best practices for creating small packetbb data structures would be useful. A minor update will be issued in the next week or two, based on feedback during WG LC. Afterward, a new WG LC will be issued. Please send in your comments now. ========================================================= Representing multi-value time in MANETs draft-ietf-manet-timetlv Speaker: Thomas Clausen Content: See slides A minor update will be issued in the next week or two. Soon afterward, a WG LC will be issued. Please send in your comments now. ========================================================= Simplified Multicast Forwarding draft-ietf-manet-smf Speaker: Joe Macker Content: See slides draft-ietf-manet-smf-05.txt presented a significant update to the document's organization. An assisted hash algorithm was specified. Fred Templin and Teco Boot questioned the decision to exclude support for fragmentation. At least two people voiced that nodes within the MANET or at the border will not be able to control whether fragmented packets are received for IPv4. Therefore, fragmentation support should be included. There was a discussion about the use of the IPID field for duplicate packet detection. Several people expressed that in network modification of the IPID, even if it was not set (i.e. set to zero), is not acceptable. There were a number of suggestions regarding the document text and its structure, please see the jabber log for details. Joe plans to issue an updated ID in the next few weeks. A WG LC will likely be called following this update. Please send in your comments now. ========================================================= MANET Neighborhood Discovery Protocol draft-ietf-manet-nhdp Speaker: Thomas Clausen Content: See slides Charlie Perkins expressed that the NHDP Hello message size is too large, since bandwidth is scarce in MANET periodic messages should be small. His suggestions were highly related to PacketBB, and Ian Chakeres asked him to take his suggestions to the list. After completing those documents currently in WG LC, NHDP is next on the agenda for completion. Please send in your comments now. ========================================================= DYMO draft-ietf-manet-dymo Speaker: Ian Chakeres Content: See slides ========================================================= OLSRv2 draft-ietf-manet-olsrv2 Speaker: Christopher Dearlove Content: See slides ========================================================= Routing Metrics The purpose of this topic is to discuss how rich routing metrics can be supported in the MANET protocols. Note that the drafts discussed here are personal drafts, but we should consider moving them to WG documents as they mature. draft-dearlove-olsrv2-metrics-00 Speaker: Christopher Dearlove Content: See slides draft-dean-manet-metriclv Speaker: Justin Dean Content: See slides Please take discussion of routing metrics and any necessary modifications to NHDP, DYMO, or OLSR to the list. ========================================================= Related work in the IETF MANEMO was discussed during Monday Autoconf. Routing in sensor networks (RSN) was discussed in the Routing Area meeting. There is also a mailing list discussing this topic.
