Minutes - PCE Working Group Meeting - IETF-69 - Chicago - July 2007 Thanks to Jaudelice De Oliveira and Cristel Pelsser for the notes. 1) Agenda/admin (Chairs - 5mn) [5] 2) Working Group progress (Chairs - 10mn) [15] 3) Inter-AS Requirements for the Path Computation Element Communication Protocol (PCECP) - draft-ietf-pce-interas-pcecp-reqs-02.txt (Kenji/Raymond/Nabil - 10mn) [25] Adrian> Someone from security should give opinion on it before WG last call. [Sandy Murphy has subsequently volunteered] 4) Update on "Extensions to the Path Computation Element Communication Protocol (PCEP) for Route Exclusions" (Eiji/Adrian - 10mn) [35] JP> Any implementation of this draft? Eiji> Yes NTT has an implementation. 5) Update on Path Computation Element (PCE) Communication Protocol (PCEP) draft-ietf-pce-pcep-08.txt (JL - 10mn) [45] JL> Objective is to WG last call right after Vancouver. Adrian> 9 implementations already. Adrian will make an exhaustive pass it since the doc is stable. Asked for comments/reviews from WG. JP> Draft now very stable. Time for everyone to do their "final" review JP> comment about code-points and collision: pleas register the temporary codepoints (www.olddog.co.uk/pce.htm) 6) Encoding of Objective Functions in Path Computation Element (PCE) communication and discovery protocols draft-leroux-pce-of-01.txt (JL - 10mn) [55] JL> Adopt as WG doc? Adrian> Asked Audience about familiarity with objective function (good show of hands - over 50% of the room). Asked who read draft (about 15 people). No one opposed to having this draft as a basis for the WG doc. We will check on the list. 7) Path Computation Element Communication Protocol (PCECP) Requirements and Protocol Extensions In Support of Global Concurrent Optimization draft-ietf-pce-global-concurrent-optimization-00.txt (Young Lee - 5mn) [60] Lee> Update on draft. Adrian> Note that PCEP extensions here (and for all other I-Ds) will not go to WG last call until after PCEP has completed JP> Thanks for having incorporated all the comments related to word about cautious about this document. Glad that WG last call was not asked. Need to get more experience before last call. 8) Diff-Serv Aware Class Type Object for Path Computation Element Communication Protocol draft-sivabalan-pce-dste-01.txt (Sami Boutros - 10mn) [70] Sami> Update on draft. Adrian> How has read the document ? (Only 2 people) AF> This is too few, although the chairs believe that this should be core work. We will ask the mailing list. JP> WG needs to get the solution for PCEP to be compliant with the requirement RFC. It is an extension to PCEP. Very straightforward ID. JP will poll the mailing list right after Chicago. Ask opinion of DS-TE people like Francois. 9) Update on PCE MIBs (Emile/Kiran - 15mn) [85] draft-ietf-pce-tc-mib-01.txt draft-ietf-pce-disc-mib-01.txt draft-kkoushik-pce-pcep-mib-00.txt Kiran> request pce-pcep-mib to become WG doc JP> Manage to start work on MIB and two people to implement. Urge WG to provide comments. Adrian> Asked about completeness of MIB modules. Kiran> Answer - No. Need to still define the pcc-pcep computation client. Adrian> Do we also need a MIB overview document (like RFC4221)? Answer - Sounds like a good idea. Adrian> How will you handle PCEP extensions Answer - Would like to close off these I-Ds and use augmentations for PCEP extensions Adrian> Suggest consider keeping MIB modules open a little longer to include some of the extensions in the main modules and use conformance statements to work out which objects are supported. My experience of extending MIB modules for GMPLS and P2MP has been unhappy. Adrian> Asked about intention of keeping this WG draft open or finish this first and then add or extend. Kiran> Prefer to complete the MIB modules and move the IDs forward and put vertical MIB extensions into new MIB modules, augmenting this one. Motivation for that would be conformance statements. Adrian> Will have offline discussion about the tradeoff incurred in doing so. Adrian> Is there a need for a separate management MIB overview like for MPLS. Kiran> Yes. 10) Applicability of GMPLS and PCE to Wavelength Switched Optical Networks - draft-bernstein-ccamp-wavelength-switched-00.txt (Greg - 10mn) [95] JP> Did you make any evaluation in the amount of data a typical network would need to get? Bernstein> Can try to clarify and quantify. Igor> What about using LDAP instead of IGP? This gives added benefit of security/confidentiality Adrian> Please look at LDAP and also at work done on generic representation of link attributes in TMF etc. Bernstein> It could be interesting for static information. Igor> Also for dynamic information like lambda grids. Can use LDAP to register binding constraints. Bernstein> Not very familiar with LDAP. Will look into the issue of notification (multiple PCEs doing computation would consume bandwidth) Igor> Maybe a combination of LGP and LDAP? Bernstein> There are several issues on security. Adrian> LDAP could be a good fit to investigate. Look at what is in the management forums. If TMF has already done something, it could be investigated. Cees de Laat> Global GRiD Forum has done some work on this in its Network Markup Language working group. Network markup language WG making an ontology and semantics (Open Grid Forum: OGF.org) description of multilayer networks. 11) Preserving Topology Confidentiality in Inter-Domain Path Computation and Signaling - draft-ietf-pce-path-key-00.txt (Adrian - 10mn) [105] Update on document. No questions. 12) Update on Policy-Enabled Path Computation Framework draft-ietf-pce-policy-enabled-path-comp-01.txt (Lou - 5mn) [110] Lou> ready for Last Call JP> It sounds ready. Suggestion: offer IPSphere to have a look at the doc before last call. JP will be the point of contact. Asked Ross whether this is a good idea, and Ross agreed. Once comments are received, last call. Adrian> OK, but this is not an indefinite consultation. We want to be able to move ahead and complete the I-D relatively soon.
