IETF NTP Working Group Meeting Monday, July 28, 2008, 1740-1940 The meeting was called to order by WG Chairs Karen O’Donoghue and Brian Haberman. Malcolm Airst took the minutes, and Yaakov Stein acted as Jabber Scribe. The jabber log can be found at http:// jabber.ietf.org/logs/ntp/2008-07-28.txt WG Last Call Document Status, Karen O’Donoghue ============================================== NTPv4 Protocol Specification Document: draft-ietf-ntp-ntpv4-proto-10.txt This is the latest revision of the NTP v4 draft in response to WG discussions. This document is in WGLC, which ends Aug 1st. NTPv4 MIB Document: draft-ietf-ntp-ntpv4-mib-04.txt This document completed last call and is now ready to advance to the IESG. . NTP Autokey Specification Document: draft-ietf-ntp-autokey-0k.txt This document is in WGLC, which ends Aug 1st. Karen has requested Security WG review on Autokey. Make sure the Security AD is aware that this is documentation of an existing protocol, not a new protocol. DHCPv6 NTP Option, Benoit Lourdelet =================================== Document: draft-gayraud-dhcpv6-ntp-opt-01.txt Network operators prefer to centrally configure IP services through DHCP. DHCPv6 options are added in this draft, which offer NTPv4 client configuration. Two new options were added to DHCPv6: Advertisement of NTP server locations and addressing of public internet and private network requirements. A concern is that a small NTP server could become overloaded, causing the risk of a catastrophic event. Existing DHCPv4 only uses the NTP server address. Additional configuration options are defined in the new draft. There was a detailed discussion on which NTP parameters to use. The author agreed to review all comments and then publish a revised document. Service providers like to distribute NTP by advertising NTP server locations. See briefing. Added multicast address sub-option. Author proposed a WGLC with WG item -02 in the next few weeks. There have not been any comments in the past few weeks. This would deprecate RFC-4075. Danny will send comments on first section, which he thinks needs changes. Chairs asked for comments on deprecating RFC-4075. The Chair requested that NTP WG members respond to the WGLC on the mailing list. The Chair believes documents are ready to progress and NTP probably won’t meet next time. All new NTP work will go to the TICTOC WG.
