Introduction 61 The Endpoint Identification option (hex value 0x8a) 62 [draft-ietf-nimrod-eid] was meant to convey topologically-independent 63 endpoint identification information between source and destination 64 endpoints, and was used with the Nimrod routing architecture 65 [NIMROD-DOC] to convey Nimrod EIDs. This option has never seen 66 widespread deployment, and therefore this document instructs IANA to 67 change the "Destination Options and Hop-by-Hop Options" registry 68 [IANA-IPV6-PARAMETERS] accordingly (marking option 0x8a as 69 "Obsolete"), thus cleaning up the corresponding registry. 71 2. Security Considerations 73 This document does not modify the security properties of the IPv6 74 option being deprecated. 76 3. IANA Considerations 78 The "Destination Options and Hop-by-Hop Options" registry 79 [IANA-IPV6-PARAMETERS] contains the list of the currently assigned 80 IPv6 option numbers. This document formally deprecates the Endpoint 81 Identification option, and requests IANA to mark it as such and 82 provide a reference to this document in the corresponding registry 83 [IANA-IPV6-PARAMETERS]. 85 Hex Value Binary Value Description Reference 86 act chg rest 87 0x8A 10 0 01010 Endpoint Identification [[CHARLES LYNN]] [draft-gont-intarea-obsolete-eid-option]* 89 [Note, an asterisk (*) denotes an obsoleted IP Option Number.] 90 4.
