Huawei Hosts 88th Internet Engineering Task Force Meeting

More than 1200 top engineers and technologists will assemble to advance the development of open Internet standards

Huawei will be the host of the 88th meeting of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) held in Vancouver on November 3-8. As the Internet's premier standards organization, the IETF brings together leading Internet engineers and technologists from around the world to develop standards for services and technologies that form the foundation of the global Internet. 

"We are very pleased that Huawei is supporting this meeting of the growing and diverse IETF community at this important time in the Internet's evolution," said Jari Arkko, Chair of the IETF. "Reflecting the tradition of technical excellence with practical relevance, IETF meetings bring together standards designers with those who develop and deploy them to address the important challenges and opportunities facing the Internet."

More than 1200 attendees from more than 70 countries are expected to participate in over 100 sessions at the IETF 88 meeting. The program includes a plenary discussion on how standards may need to be updated or adapted to ensure the Internet remains a trustworthy platform for communications and collaboration, and a discussion within the RTCWeb working group, which is developing open standards for interoperable audio, video, collaboration, and games between Web browsers.

Gai Gang, president of Huawei Carrier IP product line, said "The IETF is a very important standards organization in the Internet field, and this standardization has been driving business growth of the Internet industry, including Huawei. IETF standards form the foundation for online services and capabilities used billions of times each day, such as instant messaging, the Web, email, and domain names. Since its first meeting was held January 16, 1986 in San Diego, California, the IETF has published more than 4500 documents that describe standards for the fundamental technologies and widely used services on today's global Internet. 

IETF participation is open to any interested individual and includes experts from industry, academia, and government from across the globe. While the work of the IETF mainly takes place online to reduce barriers to participation, its in-person meetings bring together participants three times each year at locations around the world.
