This draft is a work item of the Emergency Context Resolution with Internet Technologies Working Group of the IETF. Title : Additional Data related to an Emergency Call Authors : Brian Rosen Hannes Tschofenig Roger Marshall Randall Gellens James Winterbottom Filename : draft-ietf-ecrit-additional-data-21.txt Pages : 97 Date : 2014-03-08 Abstract: When an emergency call is sent to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), the device that sends it, as well as any application service provider in the path of the call, or access network provider through which the call originated may have information about the call, the caller or the location which the PSAP may be able to use. This document describes data structures and a mechanism to convey such data to the PSAP. The mechanism uses a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), which may point to either an external resource or an object in the body of the SIP message. The mechanism thus allows the data to be passed by reference (when the URI points to an external resource) or by value (when it points into the body of the message). This follows the tradition of prior emergency services standardization work where data can be conveyed by value within the call signaling (i.e., in body of the SIP message) and also by reference. Here are my slightly more substantive comments to th= e draft. 1. extensionPoint needs to be described and exemplified. 2. Security concerns section needs to mention concerns for invalid location= s, as well. 3. Terminology: entry for Civic Location is missing, listed terms are not t= he same as the terms used in the text, and definition of "Invalid" is total= ly confusing. Based on terms used in document, I recommend removing "Invali= d", "Invalid Civic Element" and "Invalid Civic Location" and adding the fol= lowing terms (definitions of these terms are just suggestions): 1. Civic Location: pointer to RFC that defines it well. 2. Invalid Element: Any element of a LoST request's Civic Location that t= he LoST response indicates is invalid. 3. Invalid Location: A Civic Location that was included in a LoST request= and has one or more Invalid Elements as indicated in the LoST response. 4. Invalid Response: A LoST response that lists one or more Invalid Eleme= nts (i.e., indicates the LoST request's Civic Location is an Invalid Locati= on). Alternately, the terms used in the text can be changed to match the terms i= n Terminology ("Invalid Civic Element" and "Invalid Civic Location"). But t= he definitions in Terminology still need fixing. (There was a story on the= news within the last=20 year about sending emergency response to the wrong address because of just = the type of issue=20 that is included as an example - the address was incomplete and the respond= ers were sent to=20 the only address that came up - at least that is how the low pass filter of= the news reported it) Section 1. current text: This enhancement to the validation feature within LoST is required in order= to ensure a high level=20 of address matching, to overcome user and system input errors, and to suppo= rt the usefulness of location-based systems in general. Comment: seems to me that the underlying purpose is to increase the likelihood of re= turning the=20 actual correct civic address at the cost of possibly returning additional v= alid but incorrect addresses. =20 Section 2. The RFC 2119 cite is not needed since the capitalized terms are not used in= the document =20 overall. Would there be benefit to adding a section describing the behavior where th= e LoST server has=20 been upgraded to support this feature but the client has not? e.g., would = there be a way to also return some indication in the completeLocation to say that there are simila= r addresses and that=20 they should update their client - and maybe return one of the similar addre= sses or double them up? e.g. 6000 15th Ave NW|SW Seattle, WA 98107 Ugly to be sure - but =85 (if this is done there should be guidance that s= ays what the client should do - e.g. if there is a similarLocation then ignore the completeLocation) also - should there be any discussion of what errors or warnings a LoST ser= ver should or should not=20 return if it is returning a similarLocation? (maybe to deal with the upgrad= e question above) Scott= From nobody Thu Mar 27 12:46:19 2014 Return-Path: X-Original-To: ecrit@ietfa.amsl.com Delivered-To: ecrit@ietfa.amsl.com Received: from localhost (ietfa.amsl.com [127.0.0.1]) by ietfa.amsl.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 872AE1A0751 for ; Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:46:18 -0700 (PDT) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at amsl.com X-Spam-Flag: NO X-Spam-Score: -9.511 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-9.511 tagged_above=-999 required=5 tests=[BAYES_00=-1.9, DKIM_SIGNED=0.1, DKIM_VALID=-0.1, DKIM_VALID_AU=-0.1, SPF_PASS=-0.001, T_RP_MATCHES_RCVD=-0.01, USER_IN_DEF_DKIM_WL=-7.5] autolearn=ham Received: from mail.ietf.org ([4.31.198.44]) by localhost (ietfa.amsl.com [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id M_TSOkwctHkH for ; Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:46:15 -0700 (PDT) Received: from alln-iport-6.cisco.com (alln-iport-6.cisco.com [173.37.142.93]) by ietfa.amsl.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id E094E1A0753 for ; Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:46:14 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/simple; d=cisco.com; i=@cisco.com; l=841; q=dns/txt; s=iport; t=1395949573; x=1397159173; h=from:to:subject:date:message-id:references:in-reply-to: content-id:content-transfer-encoding:mime-version; bh=XamHLqtFeNxNNSRvNiAKHjqFKmUJ6m5n/ip6HYXnPQw=; b=RM5MkZpkOS7oVIw5NwM3sH43p5KSjf6YfIFsq40Ifzh6kiZu5F4cpkDC Ee+OmsYaQI3eDbYpV0V0zLVIoXFgEAl3AuLX/geRrpgzwpC4Zsrt1zJV/ tTCI9GmY9B3Qgv8sGkkwZDC6B6eIc8TvsEZfn13cMEqqpGwBPkiDcxSWB A=; X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Filtered: true X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Result: AkQFAJR/NFOtJXHA/2dsb2JhbABZgwY7V8JcgR8WdIIlAQEBAwE6RAsCAT4FCzIlAgSIBAgN0R4TBI4pAQFWhDgEmE2SNIFxgT6Bcjk X-IronPort-AV: E=Sophos;i="4.97,744,1389744000"; d="scan'208";a="30933638" Received: from rcdn-core2-5.cisco.com ([173.37.113.192]) by alln-iport-6.cisco.com with ESMTP; 27 Mar 2014 19:46:12 +0000 Received: from xhc-aln-x14.cisco.com (xhc-aln-x14.cisco.com [173.36.12.88]) by rcdn-core2-5.cisco.com (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id s2RJkCNr030264 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=AES128-SHA bits=128 verify=FAIL) for ; Thu, 27 Mar 2014 19:46:13 GMT Received: from xmb-rcd-x08.cisco.com ([169.254.8.10]) by xhc-aln-x14.cisco.com ([173.36.12.88]) with mapi id 14.03.0123.003; Thu, 27 Mar 2014 14:46:12 -0500 From: "Marc Linsner (mlinsner)" To: "ecrit@ietf.org" Thread-Topic: IPR Disclosure: InterDigital Patent Holdings, Inc.'s Statement about IPR related to draft-ietf-ecrit-psap-callback-13 Thread-Index: AQHPOTL+svor8f7p50yBU+SXCiBuSJr1iMaA Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2014 19:46:11 +0000 Message-ID: References: <20140306115540.15274.53932.idtracker@ietfa.amsl.com> In-Reply-To: <20140306115540.15274.53932.idtracker@ietfa.amsl.com> Accept-Language: en-US Content-Language: en-US X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: x-originating-ip: [10.116.148.98] Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-ID: <9F521BE57D761F4CB94848CE81DC5622@emea.cisco.com> Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable MIME-Version: 1.0 Archived-At: http://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/ecrit/frrLBDdTaDN5rgL1GiHXpzlX_UA Subject: [Ecrit] IPR Disclosure: InterDigital Patent Holdings, Inc.'s Statement about IPR related to draft-ietf-ecrit-psap-callback-13 X-BeenThere: ecrit@ietf.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.15 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2014 19:46:18 -0000 All, Please review this IPR disclosure and express concerns/objections about moving forward with publication of the PSAP-callback draft this to the mail list by COB Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
